WHO I AM
I am a generational New Mexican with family across the county. I am a proud mom of two young adults who I raised as a single young parent in the southeast part of Albuquerque. It is as a mom, daughter, sister, friend that I am inspired to run for County Commissioner. Together we have lived what it means to navigate our county systems and safety nets, to have loved ones experience crime, struggle with addictions, search for employment, or take a risk and start a new business.
After serving as Executive Director for Young Women United for eight years, I decided to open the space of other young women of color to lead and seven years ago I started Strong Families NM, a program of Forward Together, where I I currently serve as Field Director. Forward Together, a national non-profit agency that has put down roots in New Mexico and is leading work that builds rights, recognition, and resources for all families. I am privileged to work alongside our communities everyday to create meaningful change.
I am a graduate of Albuquerque High School and attended the University of New Mexico (UNM). Everyone’s a Lobo! While at UNM I served as a mentor in the ORALE program, supporting Chicano and Latino students in completing high school and accessing Higher Education. At the age of 24, a college senior, and single mom of two, I was awarded the first Kellogg grant to come to New Mexico, which now operates as ENLACE NM, the state’s largest mentoring program. From working for YDI to keep young people safe, to creating policy change at local non-profits, I have spent my life serving the families of New Mexico and am ready to serve District 3.
